Our Theme is "Building Bridges"
During the course of 114 years, more than 25,000 PTAs have been building bridges across the country -- learning from one another and helping parents to become stronger advocates for the rights of children in the process.
Bridges make it possible to cross gaps without going the long way around.
Bridges allow you to cross water without falling in and getting wet.
Bridges help you travel easily from one place to another.
Like bridges, PTAs help parents and children learn to make successful transitions to school, get information into the hands of those that need it, and provide ways for parents to become more involved in their child’s education.
Bridge builders were left with the challenge of how to support a bridge in the middle. No one could solve it better than by making an arch. As the weight on the bridge increases, the stones in the arch hold each other up. The arch for PTAs is the relationships we have with one another. The stones in the arch at your PTA are parents, PTA leaders, the principal and staff. No one person is left alone to accomplish all that must be done now. The Mt. Helix Council of PTAs works to foster a stronger relationship among the PTAs.
Like engineers, PTAs may have been left with many challenges when they are building bridges. They have to choose the right design for a strong structure, and choose the right materials which will withstand the strain. They decide how to keep this bridge intact even if left with a leadership transition or keeping programs going during the busiest times of the school year. PTA bridge builders must change with the times, and incorporate new technologies and strategies to communicate effectively with parents so that no one is left out.
It takes work, but the bridges we are building now can support families today and into our future.
Thank you for making a difference for children!
